A young boy has tragically died after struggling in a swimming pool while at a birthday party.

Garda, Ireland’s police force, confirmed the boy was taken to hospital by ambulance from the Leisure Center at the Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Center in south-east Clare.

The child, from nearby Clonlara, had attended a birthday party at the hotel.

The 7-year-old is believed to have been pulled unconscious from the water and efforts were made to save his life at the pool, The Sun reports.

He was rushed to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced dead.

A Garda spokesman said: ‘GardaĆ and emergency services responded to an incident at a swimming pool on a property in Killaloe, Co. Clare, shortly before 3pm on Saturday 20 April 2024.

‘A 7-year-old boy was transported from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced deceased.

‘The local coroner has been informed and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.’

Police say the death is not considered suspicious.
