‘Really good’ – EPL manager blown away by ‘very physical’ Arsenal duo after 2-0 win over Wolves

It was the perfect response the Gunners needed after losing top spot following a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium last weekend and their subsequent elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Arsenal were impressive at both ends of the pitch, with Wolves manager Gary O’Neil impressed with the centre-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, who heaped praise on the Gunners duo after the match.

“We had some good moments, but when you look at the statistics you see how well they defend.

“Gabriel and Saliba are really good and very physical. We got into some good crossing areas and almost took the lead 1-0 when we hit the post, but they are a difficult team to play against when you have no attackers. We tried to use our pressure.”

Arsenal have kept the most clean sheets (15) in 33 Premier League games in 2023/24 and conceded the fewest goals (26), and they need their defense at its best in the remaining five games of the season.

They are back in action on Tuesday when they host Chelsea in the London derby, and both Saliba and Gabriel will be desperate to keep the Blues out.

The Gunners have everything it takes to do that against the struggling Blues, and another win will move them four points clear of Manchester City – although Pep Guardiola’s side would have played two fewer games by then.

Nevertheless, such a temporary boost will come in handy and give Arsenal a glimmer of hope ahead of the remaining four matches.

They next play Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton and will have to remain solid at the back to get maximum points and hope that Man City drops points.
