Baseball completes Bethany’s sweep

LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team completed its sweep of Bethany College on Saturday afternoon at Phillip Anderson Field. The Braves won both games of the double header, winning game one 4-3 and game two 7-0.

Game one
Ottawa broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. Tyler Farnham was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second base on a passed ball. Cole Broughton walked, putting OU runners on first and second base. Both players advanced 90 feet with a double steal. A sacrifice flies by Blaine Thomas Farnham scored and OU led 1-0.

The Swedes answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered with two runs of its own in the top of the fourth.

Walks by Jackson Alaniz And Liam Vulcano put two on base for the Braves. by Antonius Soria a double to left scored both Alaniz and Vulcano, giving OU a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Braves increased their lead over the Swedes. Broughton singled to left and advanced to third base on an error by BC’s left fielder. Thomas scored Broughton with a grounder and Ottawa had a 4-2 lead.

Bethany tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth. The Swedes scored a point to cut OU’s lead to 4-3. Fawster Vojtko came into the game with two on and one out. A Swede was fouled out and Voytko was able to get the ground short for the final out, securing the 4-3 victory for OU.
