Union falls to #40 Vassar, 8-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Union College women’s tennis team fell 8-1 to #40 Vassar College in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center.

Despite the loss, Union (8-6, 3-3 Liberty League) remains in fourth place in the Liberty League standings with two conference games remaining. The Garnet Chargers must win one of their final two Liberty League games to clinch a postseason spot.

Vassar (13-3, 6-0 Liberty League) started the day with wins in all three doubles matches, taking an early lead. Sophomore Skylar Semon And Claire Langille came closest to a win in the third doubles match, falling just short to Anayna Krishnan and Elyse Duley in an 8-6 loss.

Sophomore Chara Meidani avoided the clean sweep with a hard-fought win at second singles, coming from a set-down, defeating Macey Dowd by a score of 4-6, 6-3, (10-7). First year Luisa Arizpe-Sierra also put up a good fight in her third singles match against Iris Li before falling to a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 decision.

Union returns to action Monday with the non-conference final at SUNY Oneonta at 4 p.m
