Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia live updates, results, highlights of the 2024 boxing fight

This weekend is all about super lightweight supremacy as reigning WBC champion Devin Haney makes his first defense against old amateur rival Ryan Garcia on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The 12-round fight, plus undercard action, will air on DAZN PPV.

Haney is the favorite and for good reason. The former undisputed lightweight king is a fixture on any pound-for-pound list worth reading, and he is in superb form. In December, “The Dream” became two-weight world champion thanks to a perfect performance against Regis Prograis.

Garcia has only mixed at this level once. Last April, the young Californian was knocked out by Gervonta “Tank” Davis in a 136-pound catchweight match. He has since bounced back to claim a knockout victory over Oscar Duarte and is confident he can dethrone his old foe.

Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia live fight updates, results, highlights

9:44 PM ET: As we head into the championship rounds, Jiminez’s work rate has caused Ramirez a lot of problems in the second half. It looks like the visitor is backing away in the scoring, but he would be wise to keep the pressure on as he is away from home.

9:37 PM ET: We go to Ryan Garcia’s locker room as he starts his warm-up. If you can believe it, the enigmatic Californian has a group of violinists playing classical music while he walks around throwing punches.

9:35 PM ET: Eight laps in and the heated exchanges continue. Scrappy Ramirez is bleeding profusely from the mouth, but on the outside he can still box very well. Jiminez is going through the gears and working much harder, which could catch the judges’ attention.

9:20 PM ET: It’s a close fight over four rounds. Jiminez is more aggressive and throws more punches. The Costa Rican star is also starting to make a home for the uppercut. Ramirez does the most striking work and he is accurate. The score depends on what you prefer.

9:05 PM ET: Ramirez, known as “Scrappy,” goes down in the first three seconds of the first round. It is decided that there will be no knockdown.

9:00 PM ET: Next up is Johnny Ramirez vs. Davis Jimenez for the interim WBA super flyweight title. There has been a lot of hostility leading up to this one and many believe this could be the fight of the night.

8:36 PM ET: A sustained two-fisted attack from Conwell forces referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to stop the fight in round six. Although Gallimore was not dropped, he did not return fire and the stoppage was justified. The official time is 0:52. Conwell completes a successful Golden Boy Promotions debut, improving to 19-0 (14 KOs).

8:36 PM ET: The Doctor looks at Gallimore before the start of round four. The Jamaican-born American is cut and absorbs a shellacking. Conwell continues to score with bombs. It’s an uppercut town right now.

8:31 PM ET: It’s two rounds in and Conwell looks leagues higher. He switches beautifully from head to body and supports his man with sharp blows. Gallimore shows one terribly good chin.

8:22 PM ET: The first pay-per-view fight of the evening is Charles Conwell vs. Nathaniel Gallimore at super welterweight. Conwell (18-0, 13 KOs) has been out of the ring for 17 months and is looking for a statement performance against a seasoned veteran. Both fighters are in the ring and we are ready to go.

Good evening and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of the Devin Haney vs. card. Ryan Garcia from Brooklyn, New York.
